Ruth A. Means

Ruth A. Means, 86, of Lancaster, formerly of Leola, died Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Mennonite Home after a brief illness.

Born in New Holland, she was the daughter of the late Jason and Grace (Hammond) Buzzard. Her husband, Paul D. Means, Sr., died Dec. 17, 1988.

Ruth worked for 30 years as a billing clerk for Bernstein and Son Lingerie Inc. in Lancaster, retiring in 1988.

She was a member of the Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church and she enjoyed going to the beach, her dogs, reading, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving is a daughter, Thea, married to George Althouse of Leola; three sons, Paul D., Jr., married to Wendy (Martin) Means of Gordonville, Allen, married to Patti (McDivitt) Means of Strasburg, and Michael, married to Lori (Poleski) Means of New Holland; seven grandchildren, Lori, Dana, Sherri, Terri, Paul, III, Joel and Justin; nine great grandchildren, Aubree, Tyler, Drew, Cheyenne, Nicole, Kyle, Olivia, Dallas and Jordyn; and seven brothers and sisters, Grace, married to Robert Sprecher of East Earl, Maurice Buzzard of California, Willis “Pete,” married to Elaine (Good) Buzzard of New Holland, Harvey, married to Joanne (Good) Buzzard of New Holland, Garnell, married to Bill Fitzkee of Delaware, Ethel, married to Lewis Davis of New Holland, and Glenn, married to Barbara Buzzard of East Earl.

Preceding her in death is a daughter, Sandy Hoffmeier; three grandchildren, Doug Althouse, Gregory Means, and Jenna Means; three brothers, Leroy, Herbert and Arthur Buzzard; and two sisters, Ella Bergman and Violet Stoltzfus.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 1 at Noon at the Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church, 4833 Division Hwy., PO Box 96, East Earl, PA 17519 with the Rev. Dr. Krisana Poontajak officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church from 10 – Noon. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church, (address above), or to Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
