Ruth Stauffer

Ruth Stauffer, 92, of New Holland, formerly of Elverson, peacefully went home to heaven on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Ephrata Community Hospital.

Born in Morgantown, she was the daughter of the late David S. and Emma (Stoltzfus) Yoder. Her husband, A. Richard Stauffer, died in 1999.

Ruth was a homemaker most of her life but later in life she worked for many years at Martin’s Meat Market in Morgantown.

She was a member of Conestoga Mennonite Church where she was active in the ladies sewing circle and was formerly a Sunday school teacher. She also volunteered at the Welcome Desk at Garden Spot Village and enjoyed opening her home to Fresh Air and foreign students.

Surviving are eight children, Julia, married to Amos Witmer of Dayton, VA, Sanford, married to Ruth (Gehman) Stauffer of Nicholville, NY, Lowell, married to Elsie (Moyer) Stauffer of Narvon, PA, Ellen, married to Robert Gunning of Hockessin, DE, Mary Grace, married to Ron DeWald of New Market, MD, Loretta, married to Mervin Esh of Stevens, PA, Esther, married to Samuel Wenger of Harrisonburg, VA, and David, married to Janet (Harnish) Stauffer of Brushton, NY; 18 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; a brother, Mark, married to Alice (Martin) Yoder of Morgantown, PA; and three sisters, Phebe Reed Bell of Ft. Wayne, IN, Julia Yoder of Morgantown, PA, and Dorcas, married to Samuel Rolon of Stevens, PA.

Preceding her in death is a sister, Sarah Scott.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 11 at 3 pm at Conestoga Mennonite Church, 2779 Main St., Morgantown with the Reverend Bob Petersheim officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held on Sunday at the Church from 1-3 pm.
