Samuel J. Horning, 80, of 119 Brendle Rd., Goodville, died Friday at Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center. His wife, Mabel R. (Rhoads) Horning survives. They observed their 53rd wedding anniversary on February 6.
Born in Goodville, he was the son of the late Samuel W. and Anna (Malenko) Horning.
Sam had been employed as a shipping warehouse clerk at Ford New Holland. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and watching sports.
During the Korean War, he served in the Army.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Debra married to Clarence Brubaker, Ephrata and a sister Gloria Freeman, Ephrata.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 22 at 10 a.m. at the Churchtown United Methodist Church, 2170 Main St., Churchtown. Interment in the United Methodist Cemetery of Churchtown. A viewing will be held at the Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill on Tuesday from 6 – 8 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 9 – 10 a.m. Online condolences may be posted at www.groffeckenroth.com.
