Shirley G. Emery

Shirley G. (Surber) Emery, 87, of Morgantown, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Reading Hospital, Reading. She was the wife of L. Fred Emery, with whom she celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Born October 17, 1927, in Peach Bottom, PA, she was a daughter of the late Dudley L. and Bessie (Rhoten) Surber. For over 20 years she worked for RCA on the production line as an electronics tester.

Along with her husband, Shirley is survived by two daughters: Kathy Emery of Reading and Beth Anne Emery of Morgantown; two sisters: Roberta Hessler of Conowingo, MD, and Betty Becker, wife of George, of Newark, DE; two brothers: James Surber, husband of Dottie, of Manchester, TN, and Samuel Surber of Manchester, TN; three brothers-in-law: Edward R. Emery, husband of Barbara, of Wyomissing, PA, Jay V. Hash of Quarryville, PA, and Fred Kilby of Elkton, MD; her beloved dog, Holly; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by three sisters: Nann McCullough, wife of Donald, Oakie Reinhart, wife of Vance, and Ivy Wolf, wife of Theodore; and a brother, D.L. Surber.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 23 at 12:30 p.m. at Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland, PA 17557. Interment will follow at the Charles Evans Cemetery, 1119 Centre Ave, Reading, PA 19601. A viewing will be held at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. prior to services.
