Susan Patterson Martin, 68, Prayer Warrior and Missionary.
After a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Susan Patterson Martin, age 68, of New Holland, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, November 8, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Thomas K. Martin, with whom she celebrated 48 years of marriage in August. She grew up in Narvon, daughter of Richard and Alta Mae Patterson, of New Holland.
Surviving besides her husband and parents are three children: Shane T., husband of Chilpha R. Corion Martin of Lancaster, Tiffanie S., wife of David J. Meerman of New Holland, and Sabrina F., wife of Eric Smucker, of New Holland. She was predeceased by two sons, Adam Thomas and Trenton Scott. Her four treasured grandchildren are Eleanor, Violet, and Charlotte Smucker, and Zachary Meerman. Her surviving siblings are Diana Jacobs (John), Richard Patterson II (Susan), and Audrey Patterson.
Sue was a passionate servant, prayer warrior, nurse, and lifelong missionary, serving personally in Somalia, Guatemala and Thailand, and supporting global and local missions with prayer, labor and finances. From 2005-2016, she worked as a family nurse practitioner serving Salisbury Township’s community. In the 1990s, Sue was a volunteer manager and board member of the Country Gift and Thrift Shoppe in White Horse, PA, which supports Mennonite Central Committee’s global development work. For over eighteen years, she actively served Petra Church in multiple volunteer roles including women’s ministry leadership, small groups, mentoring, and healing prayer ministry. She will be missed by many into whom she poured prayer and compassion balanced with tough-love mothering.
A family greeting time will take place at Petra Church at 565 Airport Road, New Holland, PA, on Friday, November 15, from 5:30-8 PM, and Saturday morning, November 16, at 10:30, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:30 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Zoe International’s efforts to fight global human trafficking at P.O. Box 221510, Santa Clarita, CA, 91322. Finally, Sue's family would like to thank Ann Barshinger Cancer Center and Hospice and Community Care for their teams' exceptional service and kindness.
