Truman R. Hertzler

Truman R. Hertzler, 95, of Elverson, passed away at home on Monday, September 30, 2025. Truman was born in Elverson, to his late parents, Melvin L. Hertzler and Susie (Shenk) Hertzler. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Virginia M. (Mast) Hertzler.

After attending Eastern Mennonite College, he served PAX Alternate Service in Germany building houses for refugees in Europe. A man of deep faith, he was a member of Hopewell Church where he taught Bible school and Sunday school for 40 years. After marrying Virginia, they farmed the family farm and raised dairy cows beginning in 1955. He enjoyed trips to Thailand, Honduras, Paraguay, Germany, Switzerland and England. In his spare time, Truman enjoyed both reading and writing.

In addition to his wife, Truman is survived by his children, Phillip R. Hertzler and his wife Annette (Diffenbach), of Prospect, VA, Thomas M. Hertzler and his wife Helen (Shantz), of Prospect, VA, Paul J. Hertzler and his wife Linda (Martin), of Elverson, James M. Hertzler and his wife Debra (Renno), of Elverson, Anne Stott and her husband David, of Bowmansville, Joseph L. Hertzler and his wife Karen (Miller), of Elverson, and daughter-in-law, Janelle (Shantz) Hertzler, of Lancaster. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Katherine Hallman, of Kansas City, MO and brother-in-law, Dan Mullin, of London, UK.

In addition to his parents, Truman was predeceased by his son, John R. Hertzler.

A Funeral Service will occur on Saturday, October 4, 2025, beginning at 11:00 AM at Hopewell Church, 2286 Hopewell Road, Elverson, PA, with Pastor Gary Buck officiating. Viewings will be held at the church on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Saturday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Burial will immediately follow the funeral in Pine Grove Cemetery, Elverson.
