Van Chon Thai, 75, of Leola, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Van was born in Vietnam to his late parents, Tich Thien Thai and Ly Tu Luong. His wife, Thuan Thi (Vo) Thai survives at home.

Van was a kind, respectful and loving man. He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. For relaxation, Van enjoyed gardening, traveling, and tending to his koi pond. He and Thuan enjoyed being active together, often swimming. He was a fan of both the Philadelphia Eagles and the 76’ers.

In addition to his wife, Van is survived by his children, Marie Shirk and her husband James, of Leola, and David Thai and his wife Vy, also of Leola. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren, Ulysses Van Shirk, Mason Thai and Mila Thai.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026, beginning at 12:00 PM, at Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 West Main Street, New Holland. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow the funeral service in Bareville Cemetery, Leola.
