Vera Anderson, 88, a longtime resident of New Holland Pa., stepped into Glory on Nov. 24, 2014 at Hospice of Mt. Joy. She was the daughter of the late John and Garnette (Wallace) Davis.
Vera was in the Women's Army Air Corp during World War II and was attached to the European Headquarters Band in Germany. She had the distinction of singing for Marshall General Zhukov the Russian liberator of Berlin. She also sang with the Tommy Dorsey Band.
An accomplished accountant all her life, she was employed by the New Holland Cut Rate for 23 years. Vera was most noted for her beautiful quilts, sweaters, afghans, and crocheted masterpieces. During her craft career she had fabricated numerous wedding dresses and custom drapes and curtains. Over 60 blue and red ribbons were attained for her endeavors at the New Holland Farm Show.
Vera was a member of the New Holland United Methodist Church.
Family includes a son, Gary, Sr., married to Linda (Harris) Carter of Paradise, and a birth daughter, Barbara, married to Robert Janeko of Harrisburg: two brothers, John D., married to Virginia Wallace of Port Allegheny Pa., and William A., married to Kay Wallace of Lawton Ok.; four grandchildren, John Groff of Gap, Vickie Gee, Gap,
LtCol. Sean Colleen Heup of Belleville, Il., and Gary Carter Jr. of New Holland. She leaves 6 great grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Beck Funeral Home, 315 E. Main St., New Holland on Friday Nov. 28. Visitation shall be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. with a brief service at 6 pm by Rev. Gary Carter, Sr.
