Vera D. Roland

Vera D. Roland, 93, of New Holland, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at her residence. She was the loving wife of George Roland, with whom she shared over 56 years of marriage, and who preceded her in death in 2009.

Born in New Holland, she was the youngest daughter of the late John Harvey and Bertha Mae (Evans) Davis.

Vera was a graduate of the New Holland High School, Class of 1941. Prior to her marriage, she worked as an executive secretary for the New Holland Machine Company, followed by many years as a homemaker. Except for her years in West Lafayette, Indiana, while her husband George attended Purdue University, and her early years of marriage in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, she lived most of her life in New Holland. Over the years, she enjoyed family trips to Arizona, California, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, and Florida. She especially loved the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona. Vera was a longtime member of Saint Stephen Reformed Church

Vera is survived by two daughters: Susanna Roland and Emily Roland, both of New Holland.

In addition to her husband and her parents, Vera was preceded in death by 3 siblings: Elizabeth Davis, Norman Earl Davis, and John Bernard Davis.

In keeping with Vera’s wishes, a private service and interment in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in New Holland will take place at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, it was her desire that contributions be made in Vera’s memory to Goodwill Keystone Area, Marketing Department, 1150 Goodwill Drive, Harrisburg, PA 17101.

Vera’s daughters would like to thank all of the wonderful caregivers at Senior Helpers of Ephrata, Kindred Hospice, and Maple Farm of Akron for their help and loving care in recent months.
