Verna M. (Swartzentruber) Howe age 77 of Ephrata went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 6, 2018 after a courageous 7 year battle with cancer at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy. She was the wife of C. James Howe who resides at Keystone Villa, Ephrata in the memory unit. They were married 53 years on July 31st.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters Pamela, wife of Shaun Lafferty and Denise, wife of Kevin Chaney. Grandchildren Tonya wife of Phil Patton, Casey Lafferty, Brieana & Madelyn Chaney and 5 Great Grandchildren. Also surviving are two siblings Calvin Swartzentruber (Susan) and Sara Ann Boll. She was proceeded in death by three brothers Earl, Lester and Leo Swartzentruber and a sister Mary Swartzentruber.
Verna enjoyed making candy and crafts for multiple craft shows and canning and freezing vegetables. She also went on many camping trips over the years with family and friends. She was always doing for others and was determined to take care of her husband the past few years as his memory declined.
A graveside service will be held at Calvary Monument Bible Church, 1660 Mine Road, Paradise, PA on Monday, December 10, at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Tom Hubbard officiating.
The family will be forever grateful to the staff at Ephrata Cancer Center for the loving care they provided.
