Verna E. Martin, 78, of 1292 Horning Rd., Denver, died Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at her home following a brief illness, she and her husband, John M. Martin observed their 58th wedding anniversary on May 5.
Born in Denver, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Frances (Eberly) Zimmerman.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Bowmansville Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference,
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter-in-law Dianne Martin, Terre Hill; five children: Galen married to Luella Martin, Manheim; Mervin married to Julia Martin, Myerstown; Harlan married to Janet Martin, Elizabethtown; Janet married to Carl Oberholtzer, Colby, WI; Jason married to Rhoda Martin, Holtwood; 44 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Eva Brubaker, Richland; Elizabeth Horst, Ephrata; and Bertha Weaver, Denver.
She was preceded in death by a son, J. Nelson, a great granddaughter Angel Rose and three sisters: Edna Groff, Edith Burkholder, and Anna Weiler.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, May 9 at 8:45 a.m. at the Martindale Fellowship Center with further services at 9:30 a.m. at Bowmansville Mennonite Church with Bishop Leon S. Zimmerman, Bishop Amos G. Martin, Leon B. Zimmerman, Marlin Lauver, and Walter Martin officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held at the Martindale Fellowship Center on Thursday from 1 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 P.M. Kindly omit flowers. The Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill is in charge of arrangements.
