Vernon M. Reynolds of 374 E. Main St., New Holland, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011 at age 93. He was born in New Holland, the son of George H. and Minnie L. (Marks) Reynolds. Reynolds was a 1936 graduate of New Holland High School and also graduated from Lancaster Business College and worked at Battery and Brake Service Co. upon graduation. He was a long-time member of the New Holland United Methodist Church and a member of post #662 of the American Legion, New Holland. June 19, 1941 Reynolds entered the US Army and received basic training at Quarter Master Training Center at Camp Lee in Virginia. Upon Completion he was sent on maneuvers in S. Carolina as a teletype operator. Later was transferred to Quarter Master Corp. at Camp Tyson in TN. There his duties comprised payroll and attending to service records. Another transfer occurred to Quarter Master Corp. at Fort Myers, North Point, VA working in post headquarters typing payroll, attending to service records and other personnel duties. Reynolds was also a Color Bearer at Fort Myers and marched in front of President Harry S. Truman. He was discharged from the US Army on Dec. 12, 1945 and was hired by New Holland Machine Co. as a Process Engineer. After 36 years of service he retired in 1982. In retirement Mr. Reynolds became a collector of Hummels, model antique cars and other collectibles. He is survived by a half sister, Genie (wife of Ron) Burg of Summerfield, FL; a niece, Gwen Frederico, and a grand niece, Kayla of Hammonton, NJ. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 21 at 10 am at the New Holland United Methodist Church with the Reverend Susan Sliker officiating. Interment will be in the Weaverland Mennonite Cemetery. Viewing will be held at the Church on Friday from 9-10 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to ORCA, 610 N.
