Walter Rea Eppehimer, 91, of New Holland, formerly of Downingtown, went home to the Lord on Monday, October 23, 2023.
Born on July 7, 1932, he was the son of the late Ralph and Elizabeth (Moore) Eppehimer.
His beloved wife of over 50 years, Dorothy, passed away in 2007.
They raised their five children in Lionville. Walt will be greatly missed by all of them; Monica, wife of Maurice Brown of Nottingham; Diana, wife of Dwight Neatrour of Wernersville; Ralph, husband of Cheryl of Madisonville, LA; David, husband of Karen of Rhodesdale, MD; and Lisa Eppehimer, partner of Gregory Ely of Exton.
Walt is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He could tell you every one of their birthdays. Also surviving is his sister, Eleanor Charles of Media. He is preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Robertson.
Walt proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War era. He loved big trucks and driving for Pepperidge Farm for over 46 years, where he earned the Million Mile Safe Driver award. He continued driving after retirement, for Warwick Child Care Centers, Meals on Wheels, the Food Bank and other various New Holland charities. Walt took meticulous care of his cars, naming every one of them. He enjoyed football and family vacations. He had a strong work ethic, but always had fun and enjoyed his time off.
Walt loved family picnics, pool parties, and playing pinochle, especially with his children and grandchildren. Every gathering included Pepperidge cake, goldfish or Milano cookies.
A viewing for family and friends will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S Kinzer Avenue, New Holland PA 17557. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Mick Brown and Chaplain Chet Yoder.
