William N Cedar

Command Sergeant Major William N. “Buddy” Cedar, 83, of New Providence, PA, passed on Friday, March 20, 2009 at his home.


Born September 25, 1925 in East Orange, NJ he was the son of the late Harry and Frances (Bredimus) Cedar. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Audrey E. (Hanright) Cedar.


Mr. Cedar honorably served his country in the US Army for 23 years with multiple tours of duty in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam. Upon his retirement in 1970 he joined the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department in Ocean County, NJ. There he served as a fire arms instructor and an undercover narcotics officer.


After 13 years of service he retired from the Sheriff’s Dept. and relocated to the southern Lancaster County area where he was a craftsman of fine woodworking.


In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Audrey M., married to Eric Buchanan of East Earl, PA; a son, Richard H., married to P. Lynne (Trant) Beyer of Conway, SC; a granddaughter, Julie M., married to Dilbeck Minter; and four great grandchildren of Acworth, GA.


The family wishes to invite friends and relatives to attend a memorial service on Wednesday, March 25 at 6 pm at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland, PA. Final resting place will be Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
