William H. Lyman

William H. "Bill" Lyman, 84, of 16 Rose Ct., New Holland, died Thursday, January 19 at Garden Spot Village. His wife, Barbara A. (Aaron) Lyman survives. Born in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Harold L. and Bessie (Stryp) Lyman. He was a graduate of Downingtown High School and The Pierce School of Business, Philadelphia. From 1945-1948, Bill served in the regular U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer Second Class aboard the U.S.S. Argonne in the Pacific area during the occupation of Japan and later on the U.S.S. Hector, and the U.S.S. Jason. Bill retired from G. O. Carlson, Inc., Thorndale in 1993 last serving as Purchasing Manager. During his 43 year career with the company, he also served as Mill Office Manager, Plant Office Manager, and Materials Manager. He was a member of the Purchasing Management Association of Philadelphia and was a Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM). He was also a member of the American Production and Control Society, the International Management Council, the National Office Management Association, and the Iron and Steel Society. Additionally, he served as chairman of the East Brandywine Twp. Board of Supervisors from 1967-1979, president of the Garden Spot Village Cottage Association from 1997-1999, and was a life member of the American Legion Post 475, Downingtown where he served as Service Officer, Historian, and Chaplain. Currently he was a member of the New Holland United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7362, New Holland. Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons: William C. married to Marsha Lyman, Coatesville; David J. married to Patricia Lyman, Downingtown; and Stephen B. married to Cynthia Lyman, Harrisburg; two grandchildren: Brian T. married to Kelly Lyman, Downingtown and Katherine Rose Lyman, Harrisburg; three great grandchildren and three step-grandsons. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4 at 2 PM in the Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, PA 17557. Private interment will be in Ranck's United Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund, address above.
