William Z. Martin

William Z. Martin, Jr., 99, formerly of 172 Hill Rd., New Holland, died Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Richland Christian Home. His wife, Frances B. (Zimmerman) Martin preceded him in death in 2008.


Born in Earl Twp., he was the son of the late William Z. and Anna (Zimmerman) Martin.


He was a farmer and hauled cattle. He was a member of Pequea Mennonite Church.


Surviving are six children: Minerva married to Norman M. Martin, Stevens; Grace married to Elmer Martin, Leola; Leonard married to Joyce L. (Good) Martin, New Holland; Lorraine married to David G. Burkholder, British Columbia; Janet married to Raymond W. Weaver, New Holland; William III married to Marilyn K. (Zeiset) Martin, New Holland; 31 grandchildren; 99 great grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; a sister Elva Stauffer, Ephrata and a brother Leon married to Clara Martin, Ephrata; and a sister-in-law Ada Martin, Stouchsburg.


In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Raymond Hurst; a grandson Randall Martin; four brothers: Paul, Harvey, Landis, and Louis Martin and four sisters: Mary Zimmerman, Anna Martin, Elsie Stauffer, and Lydia Burkholder.


His funeral will be held on Monday, January 27 at 9:15 a.m. at Fairmount Homes Farm Crest Chapel with further services at 10 a.m. at Pequea Mennonite Church with Bishop Curvin Zimmerman, Paul Newswanger, Marlin Zimmerman, and Richard Burkholder officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held on Sunday from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Fairmount Homes Farm Crest Chapel, 1100 Farm Crest Dr., Ephrata. Kindly omit flowers. The Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland is in charge of arrangements.
