Willis Flickinger, 92, of Ephrata, died Sunday, April 8, 2012 at the Ephrata Community Hospital.
Born in East Earl Township, a son of the late William and Orlean (Showalter) Flickinger, he was the husband of Irene (Stafford) Flickinger who preceded him in death on February 14, 2011.
Willis “Bill” worked at various jobs including a long haul truck driver. He retired from Sperry New Holland after 38 years as a machinist. He was a member of St. John’s Center United Church of Christ, East Earl, PA. He was a 50 year member of Ephrata Lodge No. 665 F&AM and a member of Reading Consistory. He loved the land and farming and continued to garden all his life. He had recently begun his garden for this year. His family will miss his homegrown sweet corn. He was also an avid hunter and founding member of Grand View Hunt Club in Morris, PA.
As a World War II Army veteran he was a staff sergeant with Headquarters Company 564th Signal Air Warning Battalion.
He is survived by a son, Glenn, husband of Ruth (Fleager) Flickinger of Lancaster; a daughter, Joan, wife of Patrick Sensenig of Newmanstown; four grandchildren, Matthew, married to Beth (DalCin) Sensenig, Michael, married to Lindsay (Bachman) Flickinger, Aaron, married to Johanna (Engel) Flickinger, and Sara, married to Patrick Kochel; eight great grandchildren, Jordan and Justin Sensenig, Hayley, Harmony, Gavin, and Gwenivere Kochel, and Nicodemus and Selah Flickinger; two sisters, Dorothy (Fred) Styer, and Leona Pavlakis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are two sisters, Elva Sensenig and Mary Jane Stafford; and three brothers, Alvin, Marvin, and Clair.
His funeral will be held on Friday, April 13 at 11 AM at St. John’s Center United Church of Christ, 432 Reading Road, East Earl, PA 17519 with the Rev. Bradley Haws officiating. Interment will be in Center Union Cemetery. A Masonic Service will be held at the Church on Friday at 9:30 am with visitation following from 10 to 11 AM.
