Wilmer J. Burkholder, 55, of Stevens, died unexpectedly on Monday, December 8, 2025, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital.
Wilmer loved Almeta, his wife of 31 years, and his role of dad and grandpa. He served as deacon at Muddy Creek Mennonite Church (Hope Mennonite Fellowship) for 24 years. His friends of Caribbean Light and Truth in Belize held a big part of his heart, and he and his wife made many trips to visit them. He was well-known in the community as the owner of Red Run Exhaust.
Born in Ephrata, Wilmer was the son of Fern (Burkholder) Burkholder of Ephrata and the late Elam Burkholder. He is survived by his wife, Almeta (Zimmerman) Burkholder and his six children: Alicia married to Kendal Burkholder (Denver), Carleen married to Justin Sensenig (Bedford), Laronda married to Glendon Burkholder (Stevens), Donnita married to Benjamin Burkholder (Stevens), Wilson Burkholder and Destiny Burkholder, both at home, seven grandchildren: Delvin, Daxton, Trent, Darryn, Aiden, Evan, and Judson, and his siblings: Grace Ann married to John Lehman (Cambridge Springs), Nelson Lee married to Marcela (Islas) Burkholder (Ephrata), Mervin Ray married to Brenda (Miller) Burkholder (Amherst, VA), Glen married to Judy (Auker) Burkholder (Bernville), Martha married to Conrad Martin (Rebersburg), Durrel married to Christine (Martin) Burkholder (New Holland), Sylvia Faye married to Harold Case, Jr. (Bethel), and Gerald Burkholder (Ephrata).
He was preceded in death by his father, Elam, and his brother, Leon, married to Bertha (Zimmerman) Burkholder (Hillsville, VA).
His funeral will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Muddy Creek Mennonite Church, 988 Beam Rd., Denver with Richard Hoover, Eli Martin, Wendell Hollinger, Jolan Martin and Clinton Burkholder officiating. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery. Viewings will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Middle Creek Mennonite Fellowship Center, 520 Rt. 897, Reinholds. Kindly omit flowers. The Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill, will oversee arrangements.
